Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
For those of the Catholic faith, the Hail Mary at the core of the Holy Rosary is sublime. Saying the Rosary becomes transcendent as we are reminded of the trust and obedience of the Virgin Mary. We are reminded of her place in Heaven through the Assumption and of her availability as interceder for all of us through her Immaculate Heart. We honor her continued presence in our lives.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee…
For those wanderers of multiple religious traditions, Holy Mary is something like a touching-point for all of the goddess energies. She is a personification of Shakti, that profound primordial essence of creativity and possibility. The Holy Rosary is also a way to honor all goddesses, indeed the entire energy of the divine feminine, as a vital and lovely part of divinity. Unfortunately, there has been an incredible amount of male chauvinism in the religious traditions – so let us make no apologies as we fall to our knees in utter abandonment and bliss as we approach God in this way.
…blessed art thou amongst women…
We don’t need to retreat exclusively to veneration of the divine feminine in Heaven or the New Earth, for we can perceive the Virgin Mother in many of those around us. From the cooing infant to the elderly grandmother on a porch, we can thank Holy Mary and offer her love and compassion in her diversity. We can, in action, honor our Mother, and through her, praise God. The Holy Rosary is also a way to remember these wonderful people in our lives.
… and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
We seek also Mary in her works. For Mary bore Jesus, and Jesus is the way and the truth and the life (John 14:6). If you strive after the light in whatever form, the light emanates from the works of the divine feminine. The holy incarnation of God as Jesus is reflected in the countless beings who have achieved enlightenment in this world. Insofar as we dare seek to blessings of peace, compassion, and love, we seek also Holy Mary and the divine feminine – for her works are not separable from her, as the Holy Rosary reminds us.
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now…
And our essential selves, our souls, are all feminine in aspect. For all that which is created in love is born, and all beings – male and female alike – can extend the Love of the Father. This is our gift as a part of Him. Where we choose to deny it and instead only dole out discipline and sterile command, may the Mother of God work in us, through us as our souls which are of her energy, to restore us to trust and obedience, to faith, to happiness and love. The Holy Rosary is a way for us to ask for such restoration.
… and at the hour of our death.
Whatever your traditions, whatever your beliefs, the vehicle of the Holy Rosary can carry you far. Go sit among the flowers and offer forth your prayers. Mother Earth is of the same essence as Mary and all beings here are her children. And we are her too, for she is in us, and we are her Child too, for He is in us. And Mary will touch your face tenderly with a breeze, with a happy memory, with a tranquility rising up from your chest into your throat, and you will be comforted.
